Italy - Chilly in Perugia

A train, a bus and then we found ourselves in Perugia.

Here I was, wearing my denim skirt and little linen top, standing in a town on top of a huge hill/mountain when the bad weather moved in. I probably made the locals laugh when I changed in the centre of town into something much more appropriate for the temperature. This pretty much signified the weather for our entire visit to Perugia. Last time I was here with Amanda, Jase and Lou it was pretty cold, but that would be expected in Winter. Oh well, we still made the most of it.

We soon discovered that we had arrived in time for an Italian holiday, which meant special events and of course, increased prices. So we found ourselves a dodgy hotel, but at least it was somewhere to stumble to at the end of the evenings. Perugia has an interesting vibe with quite a funky bar scene. We found it quite interesting that everyone suddenly disperses at about 1am. They must have a curfew on the sale of alcohol or something. We love comparing the locals to how we are when we go out drinking... and it is not that different. I guess that drunk is still drunk! (*wink*)

There are not as many tourists in Perugia, which is a REALLY good thing - especially after Florence!. We still have encountered some really dumb tourists, but they are less frequent. On one of the days there was an American lady who was working on a stall selling cranberries and other things. So Ray asked (in English) 'What is in this?' The lady looked at him and asked whether he was American (again in English). When he said 'No', she proceeded to attempt to explain it to him in Italian (very BAD Italian) what he was looking at. She didn't even give him a chance to identify himself as a Kiwi. Guess she thought that only Americans can speak English and that everyone else in Italy must speak Italian. I wonder what she thinks the British speak! ;)
